7 Quick Takes Friday

We finally all made a family trip to the Children’s Museum this past weekend.

Atticus had never been, so we went after church. It was so much fun. Maggie was able to enjoy the water table for the first time.

Water is fun!

She also loved the Mr. Potato Head exhibit. I forsee a lot of spring and summer (when its too hot for the Zoo) trips to the museum.

Potato head!

I have been reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society this week.

It is so.good.

You know a book is good when you sit on the couch to read “a bit”, then look up and an hour has gone by. You keep reading “just a minute” more and then it’s 11 pm.

Great books are not great for my sleep quota.

Have you seen the Ryan Gosling stuff? It’s pretty funny. Then I saw

Catholic Ryan Gosling. OMG.

Maybe a tad.

Did you see Simcha’s post about “Jezzie Catholics”, otherwise known as women who seem to still call themselves Catholic, but are devout readers of Jezebel. (And not just people who read it to know what the other side is thinking.)

My favorite part is this:

“Some of these folks don’t have the first clue about what the Church is actually for.  For instance, one reader laments Pope Paul VI’s failure in his duty to . . . uphold the Constitution?

[The Church has], I believe, a fundamentally flawed understanding of the First Amendment. Their handling of contraception during the Second Vatican Council was, I think, against the will of the Holy Spirit, since the assembly of lay people that they asked to consider the issue were overwhelmingly in favor of allowing contraception and the leadership didn’t like it and so overruled them.

She’s right, of course.  The Church is, like, the worst democracy ever (although the system of checks and balances is apparently robust, since the Holy Spirit’s veto was overridden so handily).”

Simcha makes me laugh. A lot.

IGNITUM TODAY is having a 4 week symposium on Catholic education. I’m really excited! I’m going to be doing a profile on my alma mater, Mount St. Mary’s University in MD.

Please go check out all of the great posts that will be up over there dealing with various aspects of Catholic education.

There is a light at the end of my dental work hell. The root canals are over! I just have two permanent crowns to put on, and then five more fillings.

That’s all.

*hangs head and cries*

My lovely friend Elizabeth sent me Audrey Assad’s new album, Heart for my birthday.

It’s wonderful. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

My favorite song is the second track, Even the Winter. One of the best songs about the ebb and flow of married love (at least that’s what I think it’s about) that I’ve heard.

If you click the link to AA’s website, you can hear a portion of all the songs on the album. Do it! PS. How cute is she?

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Yay for the children’s museum! So fun.
I knew I could count on you to alert me to the existence of a new Audrey Assad CD. The Man got me an iTunes gift card for Valentine’s Day and now I know just what to use it on :).

  2. I hadn’t seen Catholic Ryan Gosling yet… I am really excited to spend some time with that. 🙂 So glad you like the CD – my favorite track so far is Blessed Are the Ones, especially the second verse (“pour ourselves out like a wine that we’ve been saving” always makes me smile).
