7 Quick-Takes Friday

First and foremost, Atticus and I become home owners today at noon!! So excited! We have the closing today, and we take ownership of the home. I proposed we bring over sleeping bags, a stereo, and order some pizza and have a sleepover…but then Atticus pointed out that the electricity is probably not on, therefore…no heat. Maybe next week.

I submitted my application for the MSW program this week as well. I had a recommendation letter get held up for a while, which delayed my submission, but I should know sometime in early-mid April if I am accepted. I applied to the part-time day program, figuring if I am pregnant when it starts (in August) I would still be able to handle two classes per semester. I don’t know if this is true or not, but sounded like a good plan. I don’t really feel any stress about it though. I applied, not knowing for sure if it is God’s will or not, and knowing full well that if going back to school is, it will be made clear.

This weekend we are going to home depot to do one of my absolute favorite things in the world — look at paint samples! The walls of color, the dazzling saturated hues, the beautiful muted shades…the possibilities are endless. Or at least, they would be if I didn’t have to have all my color choices approved by my dear husband, who doesn’t understand the virtue of either pink or purple.

I am a cereal junkie. I love the stuff. If I was going to be stuck on an island with only one food for the rest of my life, I’d probably pick cereal and milk. However, like 98% of cereals have a very high glycemic index, meaning that they raise your blood sugar very quickly after eating them. This creates fluctuations in blood sugar levels, which is bad for someone like me.I was sad, thinking I would have to abandon my beloved breakfast of choice.
Then, in learning more about eating foods with low GI (or that raise your blood sugar only gradually over time), I discovered, Bran Flakes!!
They may not sound appetizing to you women blessed enough to be able to eat captain crunch, cinnamon life, or puffins. BUT, bran flakes are low GI, and actually taste pretty good. I am very happy to make this discovery, as I always thought that Kashi go lean tasted pretty much like squirrel food.

Atticus and I have an appointment with Dr. Jason Mattingly on March 17, for an initial consultation on fertility. Dr. Mattingly used to be in Indy, but moved to Cincinnati a few years ago. He is an NFP-family practitioner, and has been trained in the NaPro Technology through Pope Paul VI Institute. Yes!
We are also attending an introductory session on Creighton model of NFP next weekend, as we have heard it is more effective for couples with some fertility issues who are trying to achieve. We might continue charting my temps. on the sly, but are willing to give Creighton a try, especially as its the NFP model developed by the PPVI Institute.
I’m basically over the traditional Endocrinology/Reproduction community which makes HBC the magic pill for every problem, and instead of treating your illness, and trying to figure out why an otherwise healthy woman isn’t ovulating and doing something about that, they just give you yet another pill or potion to make you ovulate. I’m sorry, but that doesn’t solve the real problem, and it doesn’t really sound like healthcare to me.
Basically, we want to go to a doctor who sees clomid as the last stop, not the first. I realize that’s our preference and I’m not saying clomid isn’t or can’t be effective for many women. We’d just like to avoid it if at all possible.
So excited to meet with a doctor who doesn’t just want to reach for the pill, or the patch, or the ring, or the injection…or whatever!

In other very exciting news, I got my period! Today! Four months – 1 day from when I got my last one. Nice joke God, I get it, you’re in charge. Let’s have the next one a little more on time, shall we?(or better yet, let’s have the next one late because there’s a bun in the oven!)

That is all, I hope you have a great and blessed weekend!
